Autodesk FM Desktop has the ability to integrate a BIM model and pass that directly into the Autodesk FM where the drawings automatically update the facility management database. Once in FM Desktop, Facility Managers can integrate the drawings, request information from a drawing, look up where occupants are located, view where assets have been installed, and look up the maintenance history of the assets.
Some of the features of Autodesk FM that we will elaborate on include:
Integrating a BIM Model into the FM Desktop
Issuing a Work Request
Creating a Report
Looking up information
Import DWF into Facility Manager
This short video shows you the basics of how to get a Revit drawing containing space information into FMDesktop.
In this segment we will demonstrate how to import a dwf file into facility manager.
You can import a DWF file from any of the Autodesk Products including Architectural Desktop. DWF files are used to convey building information from the design environment to the Facility manager.
First we need to come out of the security warning, to do this click Options and then click Enable this Content. Now you can begin to import the dwf file. Start by selecting Actions on the Facility Manager main menu. Once inside of the actions menu select Import DWF. Locate the desired DWF File, select it and click Open. If the selected sheet contains spaces or equipment items it may be imported as a space plan, a dynamic file with selectable objects linked to the FM desktop database or as a plan view which is a static drawing with no links to the database.
Next we need to add information to better specify what the property, building and floor plan drawings represent. When all of this information is filled in click the Import button. Records in the drawing are then linked to the database or new records are created if none exists. The DWF file is imported to FM.
To access the drawing click on Actions and then Drawings. Next select drawings in the "look for" list and type the name of the drawing (in this case Computer Building) in the list box. At this point you can click Find now to display the drawing.
By clicking on the drawing you can display information concerning selected items or queried to highlight objects.
